What Is a Global Capability Center (GCC)?
A GCC is a company-owned team abroad. As your AI operating partner, we set yours up in India and run it.
A GCC is a team abroad that your company owns
A Global Capability Center is an operation a company sets up in another country, usually as its own subsidiary, to do work that would otherwise sit at headquarters or with a vendor. Companies run them in many countries. Reliable Group's focus is India, where we set up and run teams from Pune, Mumbai and Hyderabad.
The key distinction: you own the entity. The employees work for your company.
The client-specific work, the institutional knowledge and the operational data belong to your company. In a vendor arrangement the vendor usually employs the team, and who owns the work product, data and know-how depends on the contract.
Your client-specific workflows, data and documentation are yours. Trace is Reliable Group software, licensed under the engagement; third-party tools keep their own license terms.
The term "GCC" replaced older labels like "captive center," "shared services center," and "development center." The labels changed; the concept did not. Reliable Group ran its own India operations before it began setting them up for clients.
Companies build GCCs to own the knowledge, the IP and the leverage
Cost Structure
Cost is often where the conversation starts, but not the whole case: owning the team changes what you control, not only what you pay.
Ownership of Knowledge
Every process, exception and improvement your team builds stays in your company. With a vendor, what you keep depends on the contract's handover terms.
IP and Data Control
In a GCC, client-specific work product and data belong to your entity by default; licensed tools such as Trace keep their own terms. With a vendor, IP assignment and data location depend on the contract.
Quality That Compounds
A vendor's team often works to the vendor's metrics. A GCC team works to your goals, and the same people learn your specific work.
Exit Leverage
With a vendor, exit options are what the contract allows. With a GCC, you can change partners, bring management in house or sell the operation.
Three ways to start, two of them owned from day one
These are the models Reliable Group runs. COPO, with or without a BOT clause, is a client-owned GCC from day one. Flexi is a bridge in our entity that becomes your GCC when the team moves into yours. Compare who owns what
Flexi
A bridge, not yet a client-owned GCC: the team sits in Reliable Group's entity under your direction and moves into your entity once it exists.
COPO
Company-Owned, Partner-Operated. Your entity employs the team from day one; Reliable Group hires, trains and runs daily operations.
BOT
Build-Operate-Transfer, a clause inside COPO: the right to take over operational management on pre-agreed terms, within 24 to 36 months.
What Kind of Work Moves to a GCC
Almost any knowledge work function can move to a GCC. The question is not whether the work can be done in India, but whether it makes sense to own the team doing it. Here are the most common functions.
Technology
Software engineering, QA, DevOps, data engineering, cloud infrastructure, product support, and IT operations.
Healthcare
Revenue cycle management, claims processing, medical coding, provider data management, and regulatory reporting.
Financial Services
KYC/AML operations, trade processing, loan servicing, risk analytics, and regulatory compliance.
Business Operations
Finance and accounting, HR operations, procurement, customer operations, and back-office processing.
Pharma
Pharmacovigilance, regulatory submissions, trial data management, and medical affairs support.
GCC vs Vendor: The Short Version
| Dimension | GCC (owned) | Vendor contract |
|---|---|---|
| Employees | Employed by your entity | Usually employed by the vendor |
| IP | Client-specific work is your entity's by default; licensed tools keep their terms | Depends on the contract's assignment terms |
| Knowledge | Built inside your organization | Depends on documentation and handover terms |
| Cost at setup | Higher (setup and ramp) | Lower (no setup) |
| Cost at steady state | No vendor margin | Vendor margin built into the price |
| Team continuity | Your team, learning your work | Depends on the vendor's staffing model |
| Exit | You control the entity and the team | Set by the contract's exit and transition terms |
Vendor terms vary. Read your contract's IP assignment, data, staffing and exit clauses before comparing.
Questions we hear most
How big does my company need to be to justify a GCC?
You do not need to be a Fortune 500 company. Many teams start small. The economics can work at that scale with Flexi or COPO, because you do not build all the infrastructure yourself.
How long does it take to set up a GCC?
With Flexi, hiring starts without entity setup. With COPO, your entity is registered first and the first hires follow once it completes. A BOT clause does not change that timeline; it sets the terms for taking over management later.
What is the difference between a GCC and a vendor-run operation?
Ownership. In a GCC, the employees work for your company, the client-specific work and data belong to you, and the knowledge stays with you. With a vendor, the vendor usually employs the team, and IP, data and exit rights depend on the contract. Trace and third-party tools stay under their own licenses.
Do I need to open my own legal entity in India?
Not to start. In Flexi the team sits in Reliable Group's entity, so it is not yet your GCC. When you want ownership, you set up your own entity and the team moves into it under COPO, with or without a BOT clause.
What about data security and compliance?
In a GCC, the team works inside your systems under your access controls. We build the control design your compliance team specifies: segregation of duties, role-based access, audit logging and change control.
Can I start small and scale later?
Yes, and we recommend it. We start with a small team proving the model works before you scale. Prove value first, then expand.
